In 2008, Sudhir Gandotra and a small team made a decision that would change library automation in India forever. They introduced Koha — the world's most powerful open-source Library Management System — to Indian libraries at a time when no one else was doing it.
The challenge they faced was immediate and painful: libraries desperately needed automation, but traditional vendors were charging ₹5 to ₹50 Lakh per year — plus the cost of servers, UPS systems, air conditioning, and dedicated IT staff. For most libraries across Asia and Africa, this was simply out of reach.
