Aims and Scope

2017 CiteScore: 1.33 - values from Scopus

Equity & Excellence in Education publishes research articles and scholarly essays that address issues of equity and social justice in education. We consider manuscripts that are theoretically rich and/or empirically grounded; draw on a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches; and, advance our understanding of school systems, individual schools, classrooms, homes, communities, organizations, technologies, social spaces, processes, and practices attentive to different ways in which students from a range of social group backgrounds are served.

The journal aims to provide researchers, practitioners, and students a unique opportunity for exchange. We are particularly interested in the analyses of what equity and justice may look like or do for historically marginalized populations, the examination of systemic oppression, and the utilization of intersectionalities to explain the forces influencing social events, situations, and identities in relation to learning, schooling, and education. We are also deeply interested in work that make educational equity and justice discourses the objects of critical analysis in order to unpack modes of political acts that shape the everyday realities of different social groups.

The journal welcomes submissions that (1) show knowledge of recent research and theorization in the field, (2) explain the relevance and implications of their work to theory, research, and practice and/or policy, and (3) have a strong framework directly aligned with the Aims and Scope as noted above.

There have been and will continue to be many efforts to achieve equity and social justice in education. Some are successful while others require further consideration. This journal provides a record of those important efforts. In addition, this journal offers space for relevant book or media reviews and creative works for extending key conversations and critical scholarship.

Peer Review Policy: All research articles and scholarly essays in this journal undergo a rigorous peer review. The review process is based on an initial editor screening and internal review by the editorial team, followed by an anonymous refereeing of two or more peer reviewers.
