Health, Risk & Society
Aims & Scope

Health, Risk & Society is an international scholarly journal that focusses on the social processes which influence the ways in which risks and uncertainties regarding health are identified, communicated, assessed and/or managed. Articles published in the journal should show a critical awareness of contemporary risk theory, critically evaluate and review evidence and contribute to understandings of the relationship between health, risk and society. We welcome the submission of articles which contribute to the social science of risk and uncertainty drawing on the analysis of health issues.

Health, Risk & Society aims to stimulate debate about the nature and role of risk and uncertainty in society through the publication of editorials, reviews and original articles in open, themed and special issues. It provides a forum for academics’ and practitioners’ publications that enhance understanding of the relationship between health, risk and society. Where appropriate, authors should reflect on the implications of their findings for the development of health care policy and/or practice.

Health, Risk & Society is an interdisciplinary and intersectoral journal. Contributions are welcomed from researchers and practitioners using the social sciences to explore risk issues. The journal particularly encourages the submission of articles exploring the ways in which risk and uncertainty are handled at a variety of levels, for example by individuals, through groups, within various organisations and at national and supranational levels.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert reviewers. All peer review is blind and submission is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts. Before submitting articles, authors should consult the Editor’s guidance for submissions.

Readership

Health, Risk & Society aims to be accessible to social and health scientists from a variety of disciplines, practitioners and policy makers who have an interest in risk issues relating to health. Accordingly those considering submitting material for publication in the journal need to ensure that it is accessible to these various audiences and avoid technical jargon that is only understood within their discipline.
