The British Journal of Religious Education (BJRE) is an international peer-reviewed journal which has a pedigree stretching back to 1934 when it began life as Religion in Education. In 1961 the title was changed to Learning for Living, and the present title was adopted in 1978. It is the leading journal in Britain for the dissemination of international research in religion and education and for the scholarly discussion of issues concerning religion and education internationally.

The British Journal of Religious Education promotes research which contributes to our understanding of the relationship between religion and education in all phases of formal and non-formal educational settings. BJRE publishes articles which are national, international and transnational in scope from researchers working in any discipline whose work informs debate in religious education. Topics might include religious education policy curriculum and pedagogy, research on religion and young people, or the influence of religion(s) and non-religious worldviews upon the educational process as a whole.

Given the breadth of scope, we strongly recommend that new authors ensure that they are familiar with the range of articles published in recent issues.  We have also provided an additional guide in the form of a checklist for contributors and peer reviewers.

Checklist:

• Does the article relate to current debates about religious education and/or the relationship between religion and education?
• Does the article explain the specific context of the article in a manner suitable for an international readership?
• Does the article present original, significant and rigorous research and/or scholarly argument?
• Does the article describe and justify the research methodology and methods that support its arguments?
• Does the article use clear, accessible language and accepted standards of academic English?
• Does the article follow the guidelines regarding style, format and referencing?

Contributions are welcome from researchers and scholars of any faith or none in all sectors of education (including higher education, schools, educational administration and inspection). Submissions from graduate students are welcome.

BJRE is published in association with Christian Education.

Peer Review Policy:
All articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by two anonymous referees from a panel of international scholars and researchers. A list of referees consulted from January to December each year is published annually in the March issue.
