Housing, Theory & Society

Housing, Theory & Society
Housing, Theory & Society
Housing, Theory and Society regards housing as a research topic embedded in wider social, cultural, and economic issues. The journal accordingly aims to develop housing research as a theoretically sophisticated field spanning the diverse academic and professional disciplines concerned with such issues. It encourages innovative intra- and multidisciplinary research and academic debate on all aspects of housing as it intersects with social, cultural, economic and behavioural phenomena, including but not limited to aging, child development, consumption, education, employment, environmental quality, gender, homelessness and deprivation, local participation, market forces, neighbourhoods, politics, public health, social policy, urban issues and welfare provision.

A critical criterion for publication Housing, Theory and Society is explicit engagement with theory. The journal welcomes purely theoretical discussions as well as contributions of theoretically informed empirical research that apply and develop general concepts and propositions. Through its Focus Articles, with open peer commentary, the journal seeks to stimulate debate among leading scholars in the field.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor or an Associate Editor, with a view to, for example, fit to the journal’s aims and scope, theoretical engagement, and originality of the contribution. If it is found suitable for further consideration, the manuscript will be sent to independent expert referees for peer review. With the exception of Focus Articles and related open peer commentary, all peer review is double blind. Submission of all work should be done online via ScholarOne Manuscripts.

Housing, Theory and Society is owned by the Institute for Housing and Urban Research at Uppsala University, Sweden. It is the successor to Scandinavian Housing and Planning Research, which was published from 1984 through 1998 (volumes 1-15).
