Performing Beauty in Participatory Art and Culture

This book investigates the notion of beauty in participatory art, an interdisciplinary form which necessitates the audience’s action in the unfolding of the piece as often seen in interactive art and technology-driven media installations.Taking into consideration established theories of beauty from Plato, Hume, Kant, Mothersill, and Gadamer, Heinrich argues that the experience of beauty in participatory art demands a revised notion of beauty that accounts for the performative and ludic turn within various art forms and, in a broader sense, within a technology-saturated culture, rendering new cultural forms and values.
