Emphasizing the relationship between Pynchon’s formal experimentation and his interest in American and international race relations, this book argues that an ambivalent reaction to the emergence of identity politics and multiculturalism is central to Pynchon’s work and, more generally, to the advent of postmodernism in United States culture. _x005F_x000D_
