Leadership Resilience

Many of the challenges faced by leaders generally are similar to those experienced by police officers. The isolation experienced in leadership roles; the pressure not to show emotion; dealing with confused, frustrated and angry people; and delivering bad news, all contribute to the pressures on leaders everywhere. The challenges in policing are more pronounced and can be more readily identified and explored than in other leadership situations. Leadership Resilience offers accounts in which difficult experiences are related in police officers' own words, describing their feelings about what was important and how they coped with it. Analysis highlights what is discussed, and not discussed, in these accounts and identifies lessons for leaders in other situations. This book will help leaders struggling with the gap between leadership education and capability and the demands made of them to survive and thrive, while maintaining their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
